OHI is a pilot project aimed at rethinking Basque movable heritage from a contemporary perspective. Its goal is to research, innovate, update, and promote certain objects and pieces of national cultural movable heritage, along with all the work behind them: materials, artisans, craftsmanship, history, etc.

Through this project, the aim is to recover and disseminate knowledge about Basque movable cultural heritage and its relationship with “Habitat,” targeting both the general public and professionals linked to the design world. By focusing on traditional elements that society has forgotten, the project seeks to reflect on their modernisation and the needs and functions they can fulfil in today’s society.

In 2019, our first collection of redesigned objects, Ohi Design Project, was unveiled. These objects are based on Basque design and were created in collaboration with designers, artisans, and local businesses. Four of these pieces were designed during the second session of the Basque Design Project, with contributions from Muka Design Lab, Estudio Primo, and Pedro Galdón from Basque Ceramic Design.
